In 1927, when Martin County was only two years old, Evans Crary Sr. began his law practice in Stuart. At the age of 25, he became a municipal judge. Later, he served as County Attorney for 32 years.
In 1936, he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, where he served until 1945. During his last year in the House, he served as Speaker. He then became a member of the Florida Senate, where he served until 1953.
While vigorously representing his constituents in Tallahassee and his clients in Stuart, Evans Crary Sr. was extremely active in his community. He served as President of the Martin County Bar Association, President of the Stuart Chamber of Commerce, and was charter member of the Stuart Rotary Club.
Evans Sr.'s son, Evans Crary, Jr., joined his father's law practice in 1954. He served as Martin County Judge from 1958 to 1964. Evans, Jr. actively practiced law for more than 40 years. The Crary Buchanan law firm owes its continued existence in large part to the efforts of Evans Crary, Jr. He guided the firm as it transitioned from a 2 lawyer operation in the 1950s to a 16 lawyer firm by the early 1990s.
Both Evans Crary Sr. and Evans Crary Jr. are widely admired for their integrity, professionalism, energy, and devotion to the community. The current members of the law firm continue to embrace the standards they set and are committed to continuing their tradition of service.
